Independence Day Made Easy
Looking for some ideas on what to do with you family this Independence Day? We have some ideas for you! Take this opportunity to plan a full day of activities that everyone will enjoy.
Start the day off with getting some exercise in. There is a good chance that you’ll be spending time with friends and family all gathered around some excellent food, so make sure to get your sweat on early! Go for a bike ride, attend any community parades or markets that are around, or go for a swim! When your family gets back home, it’ll be time to get a bite to eat! Here are a few easy ideas for snacks!
Red, White, and Blue Salad – This recipe is delicious and really simple. Chop a watermelon into 1-inch cubes and put the cubes in a large bowl. Add blueberries and feta cheese and voila! For the right ratio, try 6 cups of watermelon, 2 cups of blueberries, and 1 cup of feta cheese.
Firework Fruit Skewers – These are a perfect side to any main course you may be having. Dice your favorite type of apples into 1-inch cubes, then slide the cubed apples along with raspberries and blueberries onto skewers. To sweeten it up, lightly dust with some powdered-sugar!
Fruit and Jell-O Cups – These are a great dessert! Follow the instructions on any blue-colored Jell-O mix and fill up the bottom third of a smaller cup with the Jell-O. Once the Jell-O has cooled and firmed, create a layer of whipped cream. Top with a red fruit such as strawberries or raspberries and enjoy!
The Fourth of July is also a good opportunity to talk to your family about what independence means to you. You can share with them people that you look up to that have fought for your freedom, and continue to fight for all to be free. Whether it is people from history, or current day freedom-fighters, Independence day is a perfect occasion to have a conversation!
To wrap up the day, see if there are any firework shows around! Grab some blankets and your sweatshirts and try to find a good spot where you can see the show! But don’t forget the bug spray if there are mosquitoes around! Have a Happy Fourth of July from The Bennett Foundation!
