The Bennett Foundation’s O.C.E.A.N. Sports Camp Heads to South Dakota
The Bennett Foundation set off for the Midwest on June 17 for the foundation’s first O.C.E.A.N. Sports Camp in South Dakota. We partnered with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe to provide a day of learning, fitness, and fun.
“It was just an inspirational trip,” Michael told King5 in an interview, “to work on a native reservation and be able to work with native kids. And the first time that they ever had a professional athlete there giving them the opportunity to have sports camps and health camps, and just working with them. Letting them know that somebody cares about them.”
The O.C.E.A.N. Sports Camp in South Dakota kicked off at 10:00am with a mini health expo, where attendees learned about nutrition, techniques for staying healthy, and different ways to maintain an active lifestyle.
At 11:00am, the camp transitioned into a family health and fitness clinic. The High School Fitness Challenge was the final event of the day.
The tribe plans to keep the momentum from the event going, promoting health and fitness on the reservation.
